Doing It Yourself Isn’t Always a Good Idea

I was way in over my head thinking I could do a shower replacement myself. I expected it to be like replacing every day use doors in the home. I did those really easily. When it came to my remodeling of my bathroom, I quickly learn that this wasn’t a project I could do myself. I was sitting in the floor crying while trying to find someone who could do shower door replacement in New Jersey!

I am huge on doing things yourself. I like to learn and I enjoy the over all satisfaction that I get from doing things myself. I never expected for a shower door to be what broke me! I had taken the old door off and was started to put the new one in. It wasn’t fitting. I measured both doors and they were the same size. I tried a few more times before going to the internet to see what was wrong. I read that you have to file the corners so the door fits into place. I filed for an hour trying to get it to work and nothing helped to get this door in place. I called my friends over to help, no one could help me.

I was at my breaking point when I tried one last time. I ended up cracking the frame that the door was supposed to go in. I had given up and called a professional in New Jersey. It’s something that I had wished I had done before, but like I said I liked to do projects myself. The professionals came in, replaced the frame I had cracked, and easily slid the door into place with no issue. I asked how did they do that and I had been trying to get the door into the frame that was for an older door, not the new door. It still would have been a headache for someone like me who is not a professional because they had special tools that I didn’t have.

I learned my lesson that day! I look into projects now to see if I think I can do them and if I get the slightest feeling of “this is going to be too much” and I am going to get someone else to do it. It’s not worth it to me at al!
